In one of his many writings about prayer, Rabbi Abraham J. Heschel wrote: "To pray is to take notice of the wonder, to regain the sense of the mystery that animates all beings. Prayer is our humble answer to the inconceivable surprise of living."

Jewish religious services are a combination of keva — the inherited liturgical tradition — and kavanah — the deep intention of the prayer; our personal intention to find meaning and transcendence.

At Beth El we try to create a prayer experience that inspires us. We look for an expression of joy, a moment of quiet contemplation, a sense of awe, a feeling of support, of intellectual insight, and a connection to Jewish tradition. To accomplish these spiritual goals, we have introduced new, meaningful English prayers, uplifting melodies and more congregational singing in our Shabbat services.

This new CD — Shabbat at Beth El Synagogue — features our Cantor, Gaston Bogomolni, singing beautiful Shabbat music, in his engaging voice and with true kavanah.

We hope you enjoy this special gift. Listen to the melodies, learn them and sing them. We know they will bring added warmth to Shabbat in your home, and will enhance your participation during Shabbat at Beth El.
