8 a.m. Pride Shabbat Service at the Brandeis Building (ARRIVAL AND PARKING INSTRUCTIONS BELOW)
Pride Shabbat morning service at the Brandeis Building (210 S. 16th Street) will be led by Temple Israel before we leave for the parade site. Breakfast will be provided by Beth El. After the service, we will walk to the staging area! Take the elevator to the 2nd floor and the community room is across from there. Please arrive between 7:15 - 7:45 a.m.
The Siddur for this service is available here. If you'd like a paper copy, please print beforehand.
9:30 a.m. Line Up!
The Parade Map is below. It will start on 16th and Capital downtown, travel down Capital to 10th St. before turning North and continuing until the CHI Health Center Arena. Staging will start around 16th and Capital and continue to 16th and Cuming St. Staging is just like it always has been, so if you have done the parade before, you already know how it works! :) If you don't, the sections will have between 10-15 participants and are "blocks". The blocks are labeled on the staging sheet, and there will be volunteers at the parade to help guide you. We are block H-14, on California Street, between 15th and 16th Street. Justin Cooper’s truck and Stefanie (Director of Communications at Temple Israel) will be at our pre-parade line up space. If you arrive late, you can ask a parade official for our location and they will help you find us. We are between Creighton School of Law & Tony Vargas for Congress. Look for our "Love is Ahava" shirts with our rainbow chuppah and banner! When you get to the staging site, please remember to put on sun-block and hydrate! We will run through final details before we start marching as a group in our place.
10 a.m. The Parade Begins!
The parade is about one mile long. After the parade is over, please help clean up and pack our things into the truck. After the parade, the majority of the festivities are in the CHI Health Center.
Parking is the tough part. Due to maintanence, we will not have access to the Brandeis Building Parking Garage. We recommend the parking garages on 17th & Douglas, 13th & Dodge, and around 12th & Cass.
There is street parking near the parade area, but could be difficult to find. Please remember your parking apps. The multi-space meters accept cards or coins. Please be advised some streets may be closed off for the parade. As parking is likely to be an issue, please be prepared to walk a couple of blocks!
To get into the Brandeis Building: A Jewish Omaha friend will be waiting at the door to the Brandeis Building and show you how to get to the elevator. Take the elevator to the 2nd floor and the community room is across from there.
As we walk through the parade, say HAPPY PRIDE!
Cheer! Shout! Pretend it's Purim! Dress COLORFULLY AND SHOW YOUR PRIDE!
We have plenty of stuff to hold and giveaway throughout the parade:
- We will have a beautiful rainbow chuppah!
- A large banner that JFO created for us.
- Cards explaining our rainbow chuppah with a bag of skittles attached. We would like children or teens to be included in handing these out.
- Our water will be on the truck bed. We will have jugs of water for those of us who bring a water bottle. We will have extra water bottles for those who forget!
- Please trade out often so others can carry the banner and hold the chuppah!
A few safety things to keep in mind:
- Keep hydrated! Bring your own waterbottles, but we will also have plenty of water. Please do not pass out. If you feel light-headed or are overheating, please let someone know and a parade official can start providing assistance. We will have a few Love is Ahava water bottles for parade participants who do not bring their own and water on the truck to refill when necessary.
- Wear sun-block and a hat! We might have some sun-block, but please plan to bring your own and share. It is likely to be HOT, reaching over 90 degrees!
- Do not interact with protesters! There may be some protesters along the parade route. Simply ignore them, continue wishing everyone a happy pride and move along. If anyone becomes belligerent, please let a parade official know immediately. Law enforcement will be present to ensure public safety as well.
The parade is a rain or shine event - right now it's looking nice, but of course, Nebraska weather sometimes has different plans for us.
Please take plenty of pictures!
You can email your pictures to our Director of Communications Stefanie at sbaguian@templeisraelomaha.com or text them to 712-355-2025. Please send them ASAP as we plan on sending several to the Jewish Press to print and we'll post them to Social Media!
Thank you for celebrating with us! We couldn't do this without you!
HAPPY PRIDE!
