Social Action & Volunteering
Social Action & Volunteering
“It’s not what one says but rather what one does, that makes all the difference in the world” – Pirkei Avot
Beth El congregants are working together to make a difference in our community. Here are some great ways to get involved:
- Little Free Pantry
Chaired by Linda Salztman, you can sign up for weekly shifts to take care of Beth El's newest Social Action project by keeping our pantry filled for those in need. Click here to learn more and to register. Contact Robby if you have questions about the Little Free Pantry. - Nebraska AIDS Project – Baked Goods
Joan Marcus serves lunch once a month at the Nebraska AIDS Project, and she needs baked goods for dessert. Contact Joan if you can help. - Stephen Center – Cooking and Serving Dinner
We’ll cook and serve dinner at the Stephen Center, 2723 Q Street. Space is limited, so advance registration is required; Contact M’Lee Hasslinger to register. - Operation Grateful Goodies – Baking and/or Delivering Baked Goods
Volunteers will bake. package and/or deliver home-baked goods to police officers, fire fighters, hospital staff and employees of the Rose Blumkin Jewish Home on Christmas. Contact Linda Saltzman to learn more. - Chesed Committee
Beth El Synagogue’s Chesed Committee (Caring Committee) focuses on Acts of Loving Kindness such as phone calls, cards, meals, baskets, deliveries and personal visits. Our goal is to help meet the life challenges our members face. We are there when times are the most difficult (illness, aging, death) and also at the most joyous times ever (birth). If you are interested in joining the Chesed Committee, or if you know of a congregant who is ill and would like the Chesed Committee to offer support, please call the office at 402-492-8550. - Coaching Boys & Girls Clubs Youth of the Year Participants
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands needs community volunteers to coach Youth of the Year participants in grades 7-12. Coaching will take place in small group settings and one-on-one and will consist of: interview skills, speech delivery, essay review and resume review. Interested? Contact Robby at rerlich@bethel-omaha.org.
